Yours Truly, Tom Dooley is a locally-written play depicting the area legend of Tom Dooley whose story became a national ballad when recorded by the Kingston Trio in 1958 and is credited with starting the “Folk Boom” of the late fifties and early sixties. The Civil War-era love triangle of Tom Dulah, Lorie Foster, and Anne Melton is set in Wilkes County, NC. It resulted in Lorie’s death for which Tom was hanged after being captured in Johnson County by Sheriff Grayson. The play, like the song, begs the question: “Was Tom REALLY guilty?”
