In the fantastical Discworld, where magic and reality intertwine, young Mortimer—known simply as Mort—finds himself at a crossroads. Awkward and gangly, Mort is the kind of boy who seems destined for a life of obscurity. That is until Death himself offers Mort an apprenticeship.
Mort’s new role as Death’s apprentice plunges him into a world where the line between life and death is as thin as a scythe’s blade. Under Death’s tutelage, Mort learns the delicate art of guiding souls to the afterlife. However, Mort’s compassionate nature soon leads him to a fateful decision: he intervenes in the death of Princess Keli, saving her life and disrupting the natural order.
As Mort grapples with the consequences of his actions, he discovers that altering fate is no simple task. The fabric of reality begins to unravel, and Mort must navigate a series of challenges to restore balance. Along the way, he encounters a cast of eccentric characters, including the bumbling wizard Cutwell and Death’s adopted daughter, Ysabell.
Meanwhile, Death himself embarks on a journey of self-discovery, exploring what it means to be human. As Mort and Death’s paths converge, they must confront their own identities and the true nature of their roles in the universe.
“Mort” is a tale of growth, responsibility, and the timeless struggle between destiny and free will. With Terry Pratchett’s signature wit and humor, the story weaves a rich tapestry of adventure, philosophy, and heart.
